Chapter 14

Never say never. Not in fashion and not in life. -- Tati Green

My body pulsated as I came down from the pleasure high I was riding. My breath came out in short, trembling bursts. With my eyes shut tight, everything seemed more intense. The music that pumped through the speakers, the smell of the lavender candle that burned across the room, and the mental image of Wes underneath me as I rode him.

I moaned as I ran my hands up my belly and over my sensitive breasts.

I needed that.

Wes planted a kiss on my lips before pulling me onto his sweat slicked chest. “I can’t get enough of you.”

His heart sounded like a drum as it pounded in his ribcage. I listened for a while, tuning out the music and focusing on the beating of his heart. My heart raced from exertion, but also from just the nearness of him. I did my best to deny how he affected me, but it was no use. No matter what I did or how hard I tried, I couldn’t control my reaction to him.

I traced a line down his abs before his hand met mine and our fingers intertwined. I stared at our hands and felt the same burning in my chest that I felt every time I thought about our reality. “This has to be the last time,” I murmured, nuzzling into his chest.

Wes and I left the diner on Monday afternoon with a plan to remain friends. But somehow, when he asked me to come over for Monday Night Football that night, I convinced myself that we could be friends. I got there and as soon as the game went off, one thing led to another. Tuesday night, I had to go pick up my panties that I left the night before. I left them on purpose. Wednesday night, Wes picked up too much food from a new Italian restaurant and needed me to come over to help him eat it. That wasn’t the only thing that got eaten that night.

And tonight, here we are. I sighed. Again.

He quietly stroked my hair with his free hand so I continued, “I know I keep saying that, but it has to be. We almost got caught yesterday.”

On my way out of Wes’s building on Wednesday, I bumped into John. I was so caught off guard that I fumbled over my words coming up with an excuse for being there. John didn’t look like he believed me, but when my phone rang and I pretended it was my boyfriend, he seemed convinced. Hours later, when I saw him at work, he looked at me suspiciously every time he passed my desk.

“John would’ve said something to me if he suspected anything.”

“Maybe.” I pulled myself off of his chest and propped my head up on my hand. “But it doesn’t change our situation.”

Wes turned and propped himself up so that we were face to face. “I’m trying to follow your lead here.” He reached out and traced his finger down the side of my face.
